Hello Everyone, I started humira recently and have had 2 injections so far, but this week I've been so tired and yesterday came down with pretty bad flare. I feel so frustrated as I was beginning to see a little improvement and was seeing an improvement with my energy levels and swelling in knees. Now I'm worried that this flare means the humira will not work for me - can anyone out there tell me if this is usual. Has anyone else experienced this and gone on to have success with humira? Thanks.... Allison x

Hi Alison,

I also had a flare after I started Humira and my rheumy nurse said it's very common to flare soon after starting a new drug, so I hope that puts your mind at rest.
Mine was after 3 injections (6 weeks) and once the flare settled down I began to notice a lot of improvement.
So don't despair, it doesn't mean the Humira won't work for you.
Hope you feel better soon.
Love, Doreen xx

Hi Alison

It's still very early days with your new drug, it can take a few months to work at its full potential. I hope your flare soon subsides and you feel a bit better.

Hi Allison

Sorry you are not feeling too good but hope things start to improve once the humira kicks in.
Take care,

Hi Allison,

Flares in the intial start-up period are very very common and don't mean that the drug won't work. Don't worry ... hope the flare is short lived and the Humira does its job!

Alison

Snap - I had my first Humira injection a week ago last Saturday and I have had a really bad flare and have had to take the really strong pain killers this weekend which I hate doing as they make me feel so hung over. I thought it was the weather but maybe not. I was beginning to wonder if I had done the injection correctly as there was no reaction on the site which I usually get with drugs and it seemed so easy to do. A lot better than the Enbrel which I had to come off.

It is so good being a member of this forum as I never even thought about the flare being caused by the Humira and I, like you, was wondering if yet again I was going to fail on a new drug. I think we are so desperate for these drugs to work that we expect miracles some times.

Hope your flare settles down soon.

Jackie

Hi Alison

I hope the relief kicks in soon, I am the same as everyone else and am pinning a lot of hope on starting humira, I keep telling everyone that I will be soo much better when I get these new drugs! so thanks for the heads up, It will help me prepare, without this info im sure it would have made me feel soo much worse!

Im not starting the humira yet as having to wait for my 4 wk check to make sure im still bad!(which I am) and have been promised a depo after meeting the critera for these drugs, Iv been following everyone else on the site who was starting or been on the anti-tnfs so think Iv made my mind up to which one to go for without all of you im sure the decission would have been much harder so thanks :)

sending wishfull thoughts that you start feeling the bennifits soon

take care love corinne xxx

Just wanted to say that for some unknown reason, my rheummy says that when starting a new drug, especially the powerful biologics, having a flair up when you first start it is common.

its like the RA's "last hurrah!" or something before it gets nicely back into its box where it belongsWink

Sometimes they will even give you a depomedrome injection or stab the worst joint or 2 to tide you over.
